Annual T. Toomy Hockey tourney-Big clash rained off

The  big clash between the Ashanti  and the Greater Accra region in the Annual T. Tommy Hockey tournament in Kumasi was last Sunday  rained off on the final day following a six-hour heavy downpour which rendered the grassless pitch unsuitable for the game.

Earlier, the Ghana Revenue Authority male team (CEPS) recorded the highest scoreline last Saturday thrashing Bibiani, one of the big boys in the Ashanti Regional League 6-0.

In the senior division, seniors from Ashanti were only few steps away from salvaging the image of the region with an impeccable display, beating Citizens International from the Greater Accra League 3-2 and recorded a barren draw against Multistix.

The invincibility of the much-dreaded SAPHOLDA from the Greater Accra Region was broken when they lost 0-1 to Multistix despite beating  hapless Citizens 3-0.

Thomas Abankroh, fondly called T. Tommy, a former national star who devoted his time and energy to the development of the sport, especially in the Ashanti region, died in April 1989.

As a way of maintaining his legacy, the hockey family decided to play the tournament each year to immortalise his name.
