Ashanti Sports Council gets body for disabled

The Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Sports Council has inaugurated its 25th sports association at a special ceremony at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.

The new association, the Ghana Disabled Sports Association Ghana, is to give hope and acceptance to the physically challenged and incorporate them into the general sports fraternity.

The Ashanti Regional Director of Sports, Mr. Saka Acquaye, said the new association was one of the many which has been added in the Ashanti region within the last two years.

He said the association was to identify more disabled athletes, give them vigorous training to enable them to excel at the ECOWAS Games, All African Games, Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics and the Olympic Games.

The president of the Ghana Disabled Sports Association, Bishop Adja Kofi, said the association would make inroads and make serious impact after getting its core group of talents.

The chairman of the Ashanti regional branch of the association, Mr Jacob Anim, promised to ensure transparency and raise the bar in administering the association.

Also present were disable athletes, disabled basketball players and disabled tennis players.
