Bechem eye foreign talents to bolster squad for Africa

Bechem United's General Manager, Kingsley Osei Bonsu, has revealed that the club intends to strengthen its squad with foreign-based players if they qualify for the continental club championship.

He explained that the club was strategically planning for success, with the potential recruitment of foreign talents seen as a crucial step in their quest for glory in African football.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Mr Bonsu emphasised that the management and technical team have identified certain weaknesses in the team that needed to be addressed before any potential campaign in Africa.

He expressed the club's determination to achieve their ambitions and conveyed his confidence in winning the betPawa Premier League this season, adding that they were determined to secure victories in the remaining three matches to clinch the league title.

“We have identified the loopholes in the team and it would be filled before we embark on any campaign if we are able to win the league,” said Mr Bonsu, known in football circles as Lord Zico.

“We’re in talks with some clubs outside and want to bring in some foreign players to strengthen the squad depending on the outcome of the league. If we finish in a good position [to play African inter-club football] we’ll definitely fall on these foreign-based players,” he said.

Bechem United are currently third on the league log with 51 points and just five points adrift of league leaders, Medeama SC, with Lord Zico confident they could win the competition and qualify for the CAF Champions League.

Acknowledging the financial constraints faced by the club, Bonsu gave an assurance that they had something in the works to bolster their resources, enabling them to participate in the continental competition.
