betPawa injects over $300,000 to support Black Stars, Black Queens

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received a major financial boost ahead of the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign and the Black Queens’ participation in the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), following a sponsorship package worth more than $300,000 from leading sports betting firm betPawa.

The latest funding package, unveiled last Friday at the Best Western Hotel in Accra, further strengthens the long-standing partnership between betPawa and the GFA, a collaboration that has delivered significant investment into Ghanaian football in recent years.

The sponsorship is expected to support preparations for both national teams as Ghana seeks to enhance its competitiveness on the continental and global stages.

Speaking at the launch event, betPawa’s Head of Local Marketing and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Borah Omary Ndanyungu, emphasised that the company’s commitment to Ghanaian football extends beyond financial sponsorship.

According to him, betPawa remains dedicated to the growth and development of the sport, supporting initiatives that create opportunities for players, strengthen football structures, and inspire future generations.

“Football is one of Ghana’s greatest unifiers. Every time the Black Stars or Black Queens step onto the pitch, millions of dreams travel with them,” Mr Ndanyungu said.

“Our role is not simply to sponsor football, but to stand behind those dreams and help create the conditions for success. This support reflects our belief that when Ghanaian football wins, the entire nation moves forward together.”

The new contribution follows betPawa’s successful partnership with the Ghana Premier League and the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League through the innovative ‘Locker Room Bonus’ initiative.

That programme delivers direct financial rewards to players immediately after victories and has become one of the most direct player welfare schemes in African football.

So far, betPawa has invested more than four million Ghana cedis (GH¢4 million) into the Locker Room Bonus initiative alone, ensuring that athletes directly benefit from their performances on the pitch.

The GFA’s Vice President, Mark Addo, who graced the occasion alongside Executive Council member Frederick Acheampong and other FA dignitaries, described the support as a resounding vote of confidence.

“Today’s event and announcement matters to the GFA because it sends a clear message that Ghana football has partners that believe in its future,” Mr Addo said. “To the Black Stars and Black Queens, I say this: the support you receive today is not merely a reward. It is a vote of confidence in your ability, your character and your capacity to make Ghana proud. Carry that responsibility with humility, determination and purpose.”

He added: “To our friends at betPawa, thank you for your continued trust in Ghana Football. Thank you for investing in our players. Thank you for supporting our national teams and demonstrating that corporate partnerships can create real impact where it matters most – in the lives of athletes and the future of our game.”
In a symbolic gesture to cement the renewed partnership, Mr Addo later decorated Mr Ndanyungu with an official Black Stars jersey – the same design to be used for the 2026 World Cup campaign – along with other national team insignia.

As Ghana prepares for these crucial football milestones, the renewed commitment from betPawa highlights the growing role of private-sector investment in supporting the development and success of the nation’s game.
