Black Queens begin pre-WAFCON friendlies with win over Malawi

The Black Queens kicked off their pre-WAFCON preparations with a solid 3-1 victory over Malawi’s Scorchers at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane on Saturday.

Ghana made a strong start to the match, but a defensive lapse in the 15th minute allowed Malawi to take the lead through a well-taken free kick by Sani Tendai.

The Queens responded swiftly. In the 23rd minute, Doris Boaduwaa converted a penalty after Alice Kusi was fouled in the box. Boaduwaa doubled her tally just eight minutes later, capitalizing on a loose ball at the edge of the area with a superb long-range effort.

With seven minutes remaining, Princella Adubea’s run down the left flank led to a pinpoint cross that Boaduwaa headed home to complete her hat-trick and secure the win.

Coach Nora Häuptle made four changes to the lineup from the squad that faced Ivory Coast last month. Notably, Nancy Amoh of Ampem Darkoa earned her first start, while Princella Adubea returned to her preferred position on the right wing.

The Black Queens are set to face Benin—who replace Botswana as their next opponents—in their second pre-WAFCON friendly on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
