Boxing: Two Bombers for Rio Olympics?

Two members of the national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, appear set to  secure their qualification for the Rio Olympics Games at the ongoing African Olympic Boxing qualifiers in Yaounde, Cameroun.

They are Azumah Mohammed who defeated Camerounian Njikam Nsangou by a unanimous decision in their 69kg welterweight bout and Abdul Wahid Omar who secured a split decision over Zambian Emmanuel Ngoma in 56kg bantamweight contest.

However, Musah Lawson, another Ghanaian hopeful, failed to progress into the semi-finals when he lost by a split decision to Mauritian Merver Clair in their middleweight contest.

The two are expected to be in action today and tomorrow to determine their qualification for the Olympics.

Gideon Quartey, president of the Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF), in a telephone interview with the Graphic Sports, was hopeful the Ghanaian boxers would make it to the Olympics..
