Brazil Ambassador to grace SWAG Awards

Her Excellency Irene Vida Gala, Brazil Ambassador to Ghana, will be a special guest at the upcoming 39th SWAG Awards Night scheduled for the Banquet Hall of the State House on Saturday, May 17.

This follows the Ambassador’s acceptance of an invitation from SWAG to be their special guest at this year’s awards Night aimed at celebrating the Black Stars for bringing great honour to Ghana by qualifying for a third consecutive World Cup appearance.

In her letter of acceptance, Her Excellency Irene Vida Gala said, “I appreciate the invitation extended to me and I am glad to indicate to you my acceptance of your invitation to the awards ceremony, which is aimed at celebrating the Black Stars prior to their departure to Brazil for the World Cup 2014”.

SWAG, the only media body in Ghana affiliated to AIPS, the accredited media partners of FIFA, has had the honour and privilege of having distinguished personalities as special guests of the annual awards right ceremony. 

They include former President J. A. Kufuor, former Vice President Aliu Mahama, Otumfuo Osei Tutu, the Asantehene, Mr Danny Jordan, CEO of South Africa 2010, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin, Okyenhene, and Mr Gianni Merlo, President of AIPS.

This is the 39th year, without break, that SWAG, which is the umbrella body of all Ghanaian sports journalists, will be honouring sportsmen and sportswomen, sports dignitaries and corporate bodies which have distinguished themselves in their various disciplines of sports.

Over the years, SWAG has honoured many distinguished sportsmen and sportswomen. These include Azumah Nelson, Abedi Pele, Margaret Simpson, Ignatius Gaisah, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Tony Yeboah, John Mensah, Dede Ayew and Kwadwo Asamoah.
