The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has granted approval for Medeama Sporting Club to host their CAF Champions League home matches at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa following a successful inspection of the facility.
The Tarkwa-based club will represent Ghana in Africa's premier inter-club competition after being crowned champions of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, and the approval comes as a major boost to their preparations for the new continental campaign.
CAF's decision follows a comprehensive technical inspection carried out by its experts, who awarded the TnA Stadium a Category Two certification, confirming the venue's eligibility to host selected CAF competitions.
The Category Two approval allows the stadium to stage CAF Youth and Women's national team qualifying matches, as well as preliminary-round fixtures of CAF inter-club competitions, including the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
The approval, however, remains subject to CAF's final confirmation for each match in accordance with the governing body's competition regulations.
Requirement
In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, CAF indicated that the approval is conditional upon the fulfilment of several requirements aimed at ensuring the safety, comfort and overall matchday experience of players, match officials, spectators, media personnel and other stakeholders.
Among the conditions outlined by CAF is the revision of the stadium's approved seating capacity. The continental football governing body directed that seats with obstructed views caused by the structural columns supporting the stadium's roof should be excluded from the approved capacity.
According to CAF, the measure is intended to guarantee clear visibility of the field of play for all spectators attending matches at the venue.
CAF also instructed that the few minor deficiencies identified during the technical inspection be rectified before the stadium hosts its next continental fixture.
The governing body stated that all corrective measures contained in the Technical Inspection Report must be completed within the timelines agreed between CAF and the GFA to ensure the facility fully complies with CAF's infrastructure and stadium licensing standards.
The approval represents another important milestone for Ghana's football infrastructure and is expected to spare Medeama the inconvenience of playing their continental home fixtures at an alternative venue.
Playing in front of their home supporters at the TnA Stadium is expected to provide the Premier League champions with a significant advantage as they seek to progress beyond the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League.
The development also reflects the continuous efforts by the GFA, CAF and other stakeholders to improve stadium infrastructure across the country to meet the increasingly stringent standards required to host continental competitions.
