Cynthia Kwabi retains GTTA Sheroes title

Ghana’s top female table tennis star, Cynthia Kwabi, has been crowned winner of the third edition of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Sheroes 3 Tournament after delivering a thrilling performance from the group stages through to an intense main-draw showdown on Saturday, February 21.

The victory marks Kwabi’s second consecutive title, having also triumphed at the Sheroes 2 “Love Edition” Singles event a fortnight ago. 

From the group phase, the tone of the competition was already clear as Ghana Immigration Service's Kwabi showed authority in her group, advancing confidently into the knockout stage. 

Joanita Borteye controlled proceedings in her group, while Hilda Agbottah stamped her presence with commanding performances. 

Augustina Baidoo fought her way out of a competitive group, and Eva Adom-Amankwaa demonstrated sharp form to secure qualification.

Emerald Bortey, Bernice Borquaye, Celia Baah-Danso and Emmanuella Yaa Kyere also progressed, setting up an explosive main draw.

Once the knockout stage began, the intensity rose immediately. Cynthia Kwabi opened her title charge with a clean 3-0 victory over Eunice Helena Quayson. 

After surviving many high-pressure moments, Kwabi’s resilience and tactical discipline ultimately set her apart, sealing a well-earned championship victory and reaffirming her status as one of Ghana’s standout female table tennis players.

Emerald Bortey dispatched Anastasia Dosu 3-0 while Eva Adom-Amankwaa brushed aside Joy Esi Abaidoo 3-0. 

Augustina Baidoo survived a stern test against Celia Baah-Danso, edging a five-game battle 3-2. Hilda Agbottah cruised past Agnes Coleman 3-0, and Emmanuella Yaa Kyere overcame Dorothy Obuobi 3-1. 

Bernice Borquaye eliminated Blessing Labanti 3-0, while Joanita Borteye beat Beatrice Gyasi 3-0.

The quarterfinals delivered gripping contests, especially for Cynthia Kwabi, who had to dig deep to overcome Emerald Bortey in a seven-game thriller, winning 4-3. 

Eva Adom-Amankwaa also survived a marathon clash, defeating Augustina Baidoo 4-3. 

Emmanuella Yaa Kyere produced one of the most commanding performances of the round, sweeping past Hilda Agbottah 4-0. 
Joanita Borteye continued her strong run with a hard fought 4-3 victory over Bernice Borquaye.

In the semifinals, Kwabi’s composure once again proved decisive as she overcame Eva Adom-Amankwaa 4-1 to secure her place in the final. On the other side of the draw, Joanita Borteye beat  Emmanuella Yaa Kyere 4-1 to book her ticket to the championship match.

The final lived up to expectations. In a fiercely contested battle, Cynthia Kwabi defeated Joanita Borteye 4-3 to clinch the 2026 GTTA Sheroes 3 crown.
