East Legon Football Academy U-12 Boys crowned champions at 2025 Dana Cup in Denmark

The East Legon Football Academy (ELFA) U-12 team has etched its name in Ghana’s football history after being crowned champions at the 2025 Dana Cup in Hjørring, Denmark—one of the world’s most prestigious international youth football tournaments.

Held annually in July, this year’s tournament featured 62 teams from 26 countries competing in the Boys U-12 division. ELFA’s young squad showcased exceptional talent, discipline, and teamwork to clinch the coveted title in what marked only their third appearance at the event.

Their road to glory was nothing short of inspiring. ELFA began their knockout stage campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Germany’s JSG Fintau in the Round of 16. They went on to edge out Greenland’s B-67 2 with a 3-1 win in the quarter-finals, before sealing their triumph in style by defeating Norwegian side Madla IL 4-0 in the final.

Founded in 2019 and based in Accra, East Legon Football Academy has quickly emerged as a rising force in African youth football. The academy is known for blending elite football development with academic excellence. Through initiatives like the Emerge Project, ELFA offers scholarships and mentorships to nurture holistic growth among young athletes.

This year’s Dana Cup victory is particularly significant, coming just a year after the team’s impressive debut at the 2023 edition. Their performance in 2025 highlighted not just technical skill, but remarkable progress and maturity.

Reflecting on the achievement, ELFA’s Founder and President, Winston Yeboah Danso, said: “This victory is a dream realised. These boys have proven what’s possible through passion, discipline, and resilience. Lifting the Dana Cup on such a global stage is a proud moment for us all. It reflects the commitment of the players, coaches, parents, and supporters. We believe this is only the beginning of greater things for ELFA and Ghanaian youth football.”

The champions were welcomed home to a hero’s reception at Kotoka International Airport, where jubilant family members, fans, media, and sports enthusiasts gathered to celebrate their historic win.

Head Coach Michael Edmond Nii Tettey, who guided the team through their successful campaign, lauded the players for their dedication: “From the very first day of training, we saw something special in these boys. Their hunger to learn and their unity were exceptional. This victory isn’t just about football, it’s about character, leadership, and growth.”

Several players also shared their excitement, highlighting how the tournament challenged them and improved their game in a short time.

The academy’s journey to Denmark was once again made possible through a continued partnership with Elevate Global Consult Limited, a company dedicated to youth empowerment through sports and education.

Commenting on the collaboration, Akordy Abingya, CEO of Elevate Global Consult, said: “We believe in opening doors for young people to reach their full potential. Our partnership with East Legon Football Academy reflects that vision. Witnessing these boys lift the Dana Cup is proof that when you provide access and opportunity, great things happen.”

The 2025 Dana Cup took place from 21 to 26 July, with an official opening ceremony kicking off the competition. ELFA’s triumph in Denmark marks yet another major milestone for the academy, reinforcing its place as a beacon of youth football development in Ghana and beyond.
