The sprinter considers her participation in her maiden Olympics as a great accomplishment and an experience which she would carry with her for a long time.

“In all things I always thank God. My dreams of running in the Olympics has been over 10 years in the making. I've learned a lot of lessons along the way. When you lose more than you actually win, you gotta shift your focus and look at the big picture,” she posted on her Instagram page last Sunday.

Flings failed to go past the first round of the women’s 100m after finishing in fourth position in her heat in a time of 11.43 seconds. She tweeted after her race: “It’s a great accomplishment being here. For me to be able to qualify and be here is amazing, it’s an experience I’m not going to forget.”

Despite failing to go past the first round of the short sprints, the Ghanaian could not hide her excitement about making a debut appearance at the world biggest sporting stage.

“I’m excited to be here and I’m happy to have participated in the competition,” Flings said and although she would be leaving empty-handed the experience acquired from the competition would be with her for a long time.

Flings who was also part of the women’s 4x 100m relay team that won silver at the 2016 African Championships in South Africa, following their earlier success at the 2014 African Championships in Morocco, and the 2015 All Africa Games in Brazzaville where the team also won silver, has another opportunity to make amends in the sprints relay which begins tomorrow.

“We still got to work on the handoffs, work on the steps and basically run as fast as we can to possibly make it to the final the next time,” she said of the team’s preparation.

And being Ghana’s flagbearer at the Openeing Ceremony in Rio, was an honour and a moment of pride the 27-year-old will never forget.

“I was really excited that I was named flagbearer and I was really honoured just to be able to represent my country and my teammates,” she told www.insidethegames.biz.

“I know they have also worked so hard to be here.

“It is just a complete honour and I’m really excited to hold the flag for Ghana.”
