GFA presents 8 Nissan Navara pick-ups to Regional Football Associations
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has presented eight brand new Nissan Navara pick-up vehicles to Regional Football Associations (RFAs) across the country, at a total cost of over $262,000.
The beneficiary regions are Brong Ahafo, Upper West, Central, Western, Eastern, Upper East, Volta, and Ashanti.
The vehicles were procured through the FIFA Forward Grant.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the GFA Secretariat in Accra, GFA President Kurt Okraku stated that the gesture underscores the association’s commitment to strengthening the foundational structures of Ghana football.
He explained that the vehicles would create an enabling environment for Division Two, Division Three, Colts, Women’s Division One, and Girls’ Juvenile teams, as well as the Regional and District Football Associations to thrive.
Mr Okraku noted that the FIFA Forward Grant has enabled the GFA to take a significant step forward in its development agenda. He further revealed that the grant could only cater for eight vehicles at the moment, adding that two additional pick-ups would be secured soon and handed over to the Greater Accra and Northern RFAs.
The special guest of honour, Mr. Abraham Amaliba, Acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), applauded the GFA for what he described as evidence-based accountability in demonstrating how FIFA funds have been utilised.
Mr Amaliba admitted that he, like many Ghanaians, had previously criticised the FA for doing little with the funds, but acknowledged that Mr. Okraku has proven that the monies are being used for the good of the game.
He expressed confidence that the vehicles would help realise the FA’s long-term dreams.
On behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Abu-Hassan Rhyzo, Chairman of the Northern Region FA, thanked the GFA and pledged that the vehicles would be put to good use.
