Ghanaian youngster Christopher Bonsu Baah completes transfer to Genk

Ghanaian prodigy Christopher Bonsu Baah has completed his transfer to KRC Genk, a prominent Belgian football club, in preparation for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

The 18-year-old rising star recently made the move to Genk from Sarpsborg, a Norwegian team he joined during the January 2023 transfer window.

Hailing from Ghana, Baah, who formerly played for Shooting Stars, has garnered attention as the 59th nominee for the prestigious Golden Boy award. Despite his relatively recent arrival in Europe in March, he has already made an impact, featuring in 12 matches for Sarpsborg this season, scoring a goal and providing an assist. The team currently holds the fifth position.

As a left-footed attacker, Baah's journey began in Ghana before his venture to Norway with Sarpsborg. His transfer to Genk marks a significant milestone for Sarpsborg, as it represents their most lucrative sale to date, even though Baah only played half a season for the club.

On Thursday, Baah officially signed a five-year contract with Genk, accompanied by his manager Joe Gyamfi, who was instrumental in securing Ernest Nuamah's deal with Nordsjaelland. Both Baah and Nuamah have been nominated for the 2023 Golden Boy award, further highlighting the talent emanating from Ghana.

At his new club, Baah will have the opportunity to play alongside Joseph Paintsil, a prominent forward for the Ghanaian national team, the Black Stars.

Expressing his excitement after finalizing the contract with Genk, Baah revealed his familiarity with the club, having followed them closely since he was young. He confessed to playing FIFA video games, often choosing KRC Genk due to players like Kevin De Bruyne and Thibaut Courtois. Baah also expressed his unwavering commitment to Genk, despite interest from other teams, emphasizing that joining the club felt like the perfect decision at this juncture in his career.
