Golden Rackets cry out....... give us our extra bonus

Days after the President ordered the immediate payment of $5,000 each to the Black Queens, who won gold at the All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo, the only other team which won gold medal at the event, the Golden Rackets, are also demanding their pound of flesh.

They are appealing to the President, John Dramani Mahama, to step in and help them retrieve an additional $5,000 due them for winning gold for the country in Brazzaville last month.

According to the duo, Wisdom Narh-Adjrago and George Darko, who beat their Congolese counterparts by two straight sets in the mens’ doubles final, they received $2,500 each as reward for their feat.

They were then promised an additional $2,500 each upon return to Ghana but ever since nothing has been paid them so far. The Youth and Sports Ministry and the National Sports Authority have been mute over it.

The two gold medallists told the Graphic Sports in a telephone conversation last Saturday that the prize for winning gold was $5,000 and yet they had each received only part payment of the amount.

They expressed the hope to aspire higher and win more medals but had been demotivated to a very large extent with recent happenings relative to their allowances and per diems.

But they remained positive that issues would be sorted out early and that the sector minister Dr Mustapha Ahmed would live up to his words to pay them in full.

Both players are currently touring the country to prop up the sport.
