Before kickoff, Hearts of Oak were the most successful club in the President’s Cup history with three titles. Now, after Wednesday's win, they have four.

Kotoko and Berekum Chelsea have won the competition twice each.

Togolese international Foovi Aguidi scored the decisive kick to hand Hearts an unprecedented fourth President's Cup trophy.

Kotoko's Michael Akuffo missed the first kick during the shoot outs, but Hearts skipper Robin Gnange, Isaac Oduro, Gilbert Fiamenyo and Foovi made it 5 out of 5 kicks for the Phobians.

Eric Donkor, Latif Amadu, Christopher Bonney, and Dauda Mohammed were also on target in the shoot-out, but Akuffo turned the villain for the Porcupines.

Hearts enjoyed a good game on the day, dominating possession and creating the most open chances in the first half, but wasteful finishing from youngster Eric Kumi allowed the game to go into the break without a goal.

Eric Donkor also missed a good opportunity for Kotoko late in the first half.

The visitors had the best chance of the second half but Amed Toure was superbly denied by Soulama Abdoulaye, who amazingly tipped a non-drop volley from the Ivorian just over the bar.

Hearts lost their spark midway in the second half, but they found their resolve to win a nervy penalty shoot out.
