Hearts captain Asare targets strong Ghana Premier League finish

Captain of Accra Hearts of Oak, Benjamin Asare, has said his team is fully focused on winning their remaining four matches in the Ghana Premier League to secure a respectable position on the league table.

Hearts of Oak currently sit sixth on the league table with 46 points—eight points behind league leaders, Nations FC.

Speaking to Hearts TV ahead of their clash with Berekum Chelsea, the 31-year-old Black Stars goalkeeper admitted that while the team was not pleased with their recent goalless draw against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, they were determined to finish the season on a positive note.

“So far, with determination, we hope to win all three points in the rest of the matches so we can finish in a good position,” Asare said.

Hearts of Oak have experienced an inconsistent season and currently sit outside the top spots. However, Asare believes there is still a lot to fight for, and the players are motivated to make the most of the final games.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s fixture, Asare described the Berekum Chelsea match as a tough one, noting that all teams come well-prepared when facing a big club like Hearts.

Poor scoring form

“We are not expecting an easy game, but we are working hard to ensure we can secure victory,” he said.

The captain also addressed the team’s struggles in front of goal, acknowledging that their lack of clinical finishing has been a major concern this season.

“We are not under any pressure, but our major worry is that we are not able to score goals. But in training, everybody is very fit for the game,” he added.

Asare called on fans to keep supporting the team, expressing optimism that they would improve next season.

“We admit things didn’t go as we wanted, but we urge the fans to have faith in us. Next season, we will work hard to ensure the team improves,” he said.

Hearts of Oak will travel to play Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park this weekend as they continue their push for a strong finish to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
