Hearts of Oak confirms death of fan who collapsed during Homowo Cup match
Hearts of Oak have confirmed the tragic passing of one of their loyal supporters, William Nii Laryea, who collapsed during their Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup match against Heart of Lions last Sunday.
Laryea, a passionate fan of the club, was given immediate medical attention and rushed to an ambulance, but despite all efforts, he sadly passed away. The club announced the news in a statement on Monday.

The match, which saw Hearts of Oak score a late equalizer and eventually win 8-7 on penalties to claim the Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup, was meant to be a moment of celebration. Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was instrumental in the victory, making a crucial save and converting a penalty. However, the team's joy was overshadowed by the loss of Mr. Laryea.
In their statement, the club expressed profound sorrow: "His departure will not only affect his immediate family but also the club, as we lose his unwavering support and passion for Hearts of Oak. We intend to work closely with his family to ensure a fitting farewell for William Nii Laryea. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, and we pray for God's guidance and protection during this difficult time."
Despite the somber news, the victory provides a morale boost for Hearts of Oak as they gear up for the new season, following their recent defeat to rivals Kotoko in the Democracy Cup.
The team, which narrowly avoided relegation last season, will face newly promoted Holy Stars in their opening match of the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
