Hearts’ goals were scored in each half through forwards Patrick Razak and Kwame Kizito, respectively, while Wa All Stars pulled one back late into the game through substitute, Samuel Atta Mensah.

The scoreline was a true reflection of the balance of play as Hearts dominated the exchanges throughout the game but were denied a goal harvest by their lacklustre finishing.

Razak, who returned to club football after his exploits had helped Ghana win the just-ended WAFU Cup of Nations, opened the scoring in the 29th minute when he connected a through pass from his skipper, Thomas Abbey, beating the All Stars goalie, Rashid Seidu, to set the Phobians on course.

After the goal, the two sides engaged in a ding-dong battle, with the Wa lads forcing Hearts goalie, Ben Mensah, to make some important saves to keep the Phobians’ lead intact.

After recess, All Stars’ resilience faded with time and allowed their opponents to take control of the exchanges again and create openings in their defence in search of another goal.

Hearts’ attacking game was rewarded again in the 50th minute when Kizito scored to give them a firm lead.

However, in the 69th minute, substitute Atta Mensah, who came on for Kelvin Mathew Andoh, announced his presence when he scored with a fine strike to give All Stars a consolation goal.

Hearts midfielder Malik Akowuah was voted the best player of the game.
