As a result of the partnership, HFC is sponsoring the sport with an initial amount of GH¢125,000 which would be increased in subsequent years.

The Managing Director of HFC Bank, Mr Robert Le Hunte, at the signing ceremony said the sponsorship was expected to help enhance the competitiveness of the competition and harness athletes that would represent the country at international events.

He said the bank’s adoption of youth athletes was in line with its corporate social responsibility (CSR) and vision of building successful communities.

He added that it recognised that for Ghana to make great impact on athletics, it was important to invest more in the youth.

Mr Le Hunte also noted that the primary aim of investing in the athletic field at the school level was to identify, groom and develop potential athletes who would be capable of winning Olympics and other International laurels for the nation.

Present at the signing ceremony were the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye; a Deputy Minister of Education, Mr Alex Kyeremeh; the Director General of GES, Mr Jacob Kor; the President of the Ghana National Sports Authority, Mr Joe Kpenge, and the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Professor Francis Dodoo.
