History will not forgive us for failing to qualify for 2025 AFCON" – GFA Comms Director

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum has acknowledged that the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) "will always hang around our necks."

For the first time in two decades, the four-time African champions failed to secure a spot in the continental tournament, finishing at the bottom of Group F with just three points after three draws and three defeats.

Reflecting on the team's failure to qualify for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco, Asante Twum expressed his belief that history will not forgive the current leadership of the GFA for the setback.

"It hasn't been easy, especially knowing that history will not forgive us. In 2004, when we failed to qualify for the AFCON, it became a constant reference point," Asante Twum told JoySports.

"Now, twenty years later, we miss out again, and it's during a time when some of us are in leadership positions. History will not forgive us; not qualifying for the AFCON will always be a burden we carry, which is hard to accept at this moment."

"However, we must move forward. We are a strong football nation, and while we face challenges now, we must sift through the difficulties and focus on the positives," he added.

The Black Stars' next challenge comes in March 2025, when the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers resume, with matches against Chad and Madagascar.
