Immigration win ping-pong knockout

The mens’ quartet from the Ghana Immigration Service last Saturday beat their counterparts from the Ghana Prison Service 3-0 to win the annual kncokout championship at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall to herald the national league.

Immigration’s Derek Abrefa, Emmanuel Commey, Emmanuel Asante and Felix Lartey proved too strong for Prisons’ quartet, consisting of Adolf Awotwi, Jacob Saikun, Michael Debrah and Oscar Forson to lift the silver trophy and a reward of GH¢800.

Prisons received GH¢600 for finishing second, while third and fourth-placed Fire Service and Kings Royal Academy got GH¢400 respectively.

In the ladies category, the Ghana Navy trio of Bernice Borquaye, Dorothy Obuobi and Linda Mensah overcame a stubborn opponent from the (customs) division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, comprising Augustina Badu, Georgina Hackman and Stella Yeboah     3-2  to lift a trophy and a cash reward of GH¢800. 

Customs received GH¢600, while third and fourth placed Ghana Army and Immigration had GH¢400 each.

In his closing remarks, the President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Mr Mawuko Afadzinu, who sponsored the competition, charged the players to put up a good show during the league which begins on Saturday.

He contended that there could be no stopping of the upsurge in ping-pong in the country in recent times and challenged both players and stakeholders to keep up the momentum.
