The 22-year-old Northern native who has a knockout rate of 100 percent and record of 11 fights with no loss including a drawn last scored a split decision against hard-hitter George Akoto at the  Semanhyia Golden Mall in Kumasi on July 5.

The burly pugilist who’s aggressiveness and hard-hitting approach in the ring earned him the moniker,’ Power Jon and Jon Power’ is expected to wrap up training with famed coach Carl Lokko before departing for Albania in a few days’ time.

“This is my date with destiny, this is my time, I am ready for this, after this I start smelling the world title,” he told the Graphic Sports in an interview in Accra.

Mbanugu who fights under the stables of Osebor Boxing Promotions and Management told this medium that his outfit is doing everything possible for three more international fights before gearing for the world title in light heavyweight.

In a country not known in the heavier weight divisions, Jon Power told this paper that he will break that barrier after he has knocked out Bakaj in Albani in front of his fans.

“I was told that light-heavyweight is not our thing here in Ghana, we fight up to the middleweight divisions, but that will change with Power Jon, I will break that barrier and win a world title in the light heavyweight division,” he stated.

His manager Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osebor Promotions also believes his charge is capable of upending the nation’s trajectory in the sport.

“I have observed Jon Power for a long time, he has natural strength, talent and a strong mentality, he fears nothing and he barely gets tired in the ring,” he told the Graphic Sports.

He called on Ghanaians to throw their weight behind him and pray for him for the August 4 bout.
