Kokoto spell misery for All Stars

Kumasi Asante Kotoko yesterday displayed a spirited performance to beat Wa All Stars by 2-0 in a tension-packed premier league game at the Wa Sports Stadium.

Wa All Stars needed victory to elevate themselves from the foot of the table but before recess it became apparent the host were no match for the Porcupine Warriors who had dominated from the onset.

Two minutes before recess, Asante Kotoko finally burst the bubble of the stubborn Wa All Stars side when Amos Frimpong powered home from a header to the blind side of goalie Rashid Seidu after he had been spotted through a perfect cross by Michael Yeboah.

The goal deficit did not deter the 2016/17 league champions who managed a few efforts at goal but could not draw parity as the game went on recess.

All Stars returned from recess more determined and began mounting pressure on Kotoko but were not clinical up front.

Just when the Northern Blues seem to be in control, their hopes were dashed two minutes before recess when midfielder Frederick Boateng made a blistering move to cushion the Porcupine Warriors.

It started with a solo effort from Gyamfi who received a pass from Obed Owusu after he had dribbled two defenders and laid a pass in the path of Boateng who made no mistake about it to displace Wa All Stars goalkeeper Seidu to register the second goal.
