Opoku Nti — Drawing a lot of positives from the win over Hearts

Kotoko must now target league title

The General Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Samuel Opoku Nti, has urged the players to draw inspiration from last Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Accra Hearts of Oak to re-energise themselves for an assault on the Premier League title.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports on telephone on Tuesday, Opoku Nti, aka Lord Zico, consigned the sweet victory to history but commended the players for their splendid performance which earned them the much-needed three points in front of a packed crowd at the Accra Stadium. For him, the sweet victory last Sunday was a significant feat which proved the team had the temperament to bounce back from their poor start to the season and fight for the ultimate trophy.

“The players deserve much praise because they performed very well. They should, however, not be complacent because the league trophy is our ultimate goal,” he said.

He, therefore, charged the players not only to focus on their training but also be disciplined and work hard to enable them to realise the club’s goal of winning the league trophy.

“We don’t need to relax after our victory over Hearts. There are equally very important matches ahead and the fans expect so much from us, hence the need for the players to continue working very hard and be more committed to their training schedule.”

Lord Zico also commended the numerous Kotoko fans for their unflinching support this season, saying “besides attending matches at the Baba Yara Stadium in their numbers, they also follow us when we play away, and that has been galvanising our players all the time.”

He noted that the League had been very competitive this year, which explains the reason why it had generated so much interest.

“The League has been very competitive this year, and that is good for Ghana football. The competitiveness of the League fires up the players to play above themselves to win their matches,” he explained.
