After starting the season brightly with eight goals in 10 matches as the league’s leading marksman, Latif is poised to help his side challenge for the title as well as qualify for a continental campaign next year.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the wonderkid said: “I am looking forward to grabbing the topmost awards at the end of the season”.

“Aside this personal target, my overall ambition is to help Liberty win the league as well as qualify for the CAF inter-club competitions,” he added.

Growing Up

Reminiscing about his good old days as a colts player in the Eastern Region where his footballing skills were honed, Latif disclosed that it all started  at Mankessim where he played Young Super Eagles at the U-12 level.

He also played for other colts club such as Suhum Stars, Nsawam Red Wings and Kaiser FC at Akwadum before moving to Accra to play Elefeba FC at Alhaji Tabora among other teams.

Latif later moved to play for Blessing FC at Adabraka in the second division before he joined Liberty after his justifier excercise.

Breakthrough Season

His emergence onto the Ghanaian football scene has been one of the attractions of the Ghanaian Premier League as he has confounded many with his sheer talent.

Latif, who had his breakthorugh against Kumasi Asante Kotoko at Dansoman last season,  incidentally used to be a ball boy for the Porcupine Warriors.

The dimunitive striker reserves a lot gratitude for, Liberty coach, George Lamptey for unearthing his potential and reposing his confidence in him.

After a brief spell last season, Latif has risen to an admirable height this season and currently leading the goalking chart with eight goals.

He has been the driving force behind Liberty Professionals sudden rise to the top bracket of the Premier League inspiring them with several goal scoring assists and his scoring prowess.

He, however, lamented their loss to Aduana Stars at home last Sunday describing  it as the worse moment of his career.

“I haven’t been able to sleep after that match but we have to focus on our next match.”
