‘Man United don’t need new striker’

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal claims he is not concerned about signing a new striker, despite Wayne Rooney failing to score for the 10th game in a row in the 0-0 draw with Newcastle at Old Trafford last Saturday.

Sluggish United lost their 100 per cent Premier League record and have scored just twice in three games, one of them an own goal.
Asked if he needed a new forward to support Rooney, Van Gaal said: 'No, because we have been the better team all three times this season.

My [only] worry is that we have to dominate the opponent and we did it today. We did it against Tottenham and Aston Villa.

We did against Bruges in the Champions League and against Barcelona and San Jose Earthquakes in our preparation games. It’s not bad.
'Newcastle was one of our best performances in my period.'

The Dutchman also insists David De Gea will not leave Manchester United before the transfer window shuts.

De Gea was once again be in the stands when United played Newcastle at Old Trafford last Saturday because Van Gaal feels the Spaniard is still not able to focus properly because of Real Madrid's interest in him.

According to reports in Spain, the 10-time European champions were going to make a final bid for the keeper.

However, after a week in which United's reputation took a blow following Pedro's move to Chelsea, Van Gaal came out fighting at his pre-match press conference last Friday.

The Dutchman insisted the lure of United remains as strong as their desire to hold on to their two-time player of the year.

“I think when Manchester United wants a player he shall come, besides when a club is not selling,” the United manager said at a spiky press conference.

“It is the same with us. We are not selling De Gea.” — SkySports
