Mr K shines again

It was all thrills at the Accra Turf Club’s Whitsun Race Meeting last Saturday as Mr K from the Omar Sattout stable emerged winner of the main race, the Division 3B Invitation Race.

Ridden by Joseph Lamptey and trained by Samuel Bampoh Botchway, Mr K picked up well to record a convincing victory after beating off challenge from strong contender Sly Mongoose, ridden by E. Charway, to finish within an average time of 2.14 seconds over a distance of seven furlongs.

Mr K, Sly Mongoose and Hajia had a good start but Mr K later broke away freely to that dramatic finish.

In a post-event interview, jockey Joseph Lamptey told the Daily Graphic that his win was spiritually inclined as he prayed to God ahead of the race to bless him win the ultimate.

“This is the fifth time I am winning at this race course and I think God helped me to win because I prayed to God to help me win and I believe he did,” he said.

Another interesting race was the Division 4A race over five furlongs which saw Fresh Boy (J. Mensah), owned by Mr Dennis Ahinakwah, being crowned champion after beating competition from Who Is Free (S.T. Madu) and Copta (R. Amoah) to finish in a time of 1.34 secs.

The Novices race, which was also done over five-furlongs for horses in their maiden appearance, saw Sea Bird (D. Kotey) finishing first, while Diplomatic Lady (E. Charway) and Shatter (C. Ampah) took the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
