Owu: I’m ready for Stars
Before the dust settles on the speculations about the goalkeepers list for the Black Stars campaign at the World Cup in Brazil, Sekondi Hasaacas shot stopper, George Owu, has made a strong bid for the slot, insisting he has the needed experience to keep the post for Ghana.

Owu, who has had stints with El Masry in Egypt, Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs, is urging head coach of the Stars, Kwasi Appiah and the goalkeepers trainer, Nasamu Yakubu, to consider his experience, current form and performance in the domestic league if they want the safest pair of hands for Ghana at the global soccer fiesta.
In an interview with the Graphic Sports, the former Black Stars goalkeeper contended that if, indeed, selection of players for the World Cup would be based on current form and performance, then Coach Appiah and his technical team, who have been monitoring the First Capital Premier League and other leagues across the globe, must have him on their radar.
“I have helped Sekondi Hasaacas from Division One through to the premiership, as well as the quarter- finals of this year’s MTN FA cup.
“I have also played 23 out of the 27 league matches so far for Sekondi Hasaacas and I’m convinced I have guarded the post very well which has helped the club to place fourth on the log.
“I have been with the senior national team before, just that I did not have my chance to keep the post and so if given the opportunity this time round, I will excel, based on my experience, current form and performance in the league”.
Owu stated, adding that these qualities must be considered by the Stars handlers in their selection of goalkeepers for the World Cup.
Owu, who was with the Stars between 2006 and 2010, therefore, called on the coaches to cast their net wider when considering their final list of players for the tournament.
