Prampram Homowo hockey gala Sept. 7
Former First Lady, Ernestina Naadu Mills, would be the special guest of honour at the maiden Prampram Homowo Hockey Gala at the Anglican Park on September 7 at Prampram to commonmerate the one celebration of the passing of Ghana’s President John Evans Atta Mills.
The former first lady, who hails from Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, is partnering aspiring MP for the area, Lengi Chawe-Nartey, under the patronage of the Ghana Hockey Association to host the event to mark this year’s Homowo of the people of Prampram and to celebrate the late President.
Late President Mills was one-time Ghana’s finest hockey player and it was under his presidency that Ghana had its first ever and only hockey stadium. The one -day gala is expected to gather some of his colleagues in the Veterans Hockey Club and players of the current generation to honour the man posthumously.
The gala, which kicks off at 7am, will feature mainly Accra-based clubs, particularly those currently featuring in the Greater Accra League. They include Mulstix, Veterans, Citizens International, SAPHOLDA, Veterans Ladies, GRA, Trustees, Exchequers, Golden Sticks, Police, Reformers, Extinguishers and Tema Manhean.
The brain behind the gala, Lengi, expressed the hope the celebration would become an annual event and would be expanded and improved in the coming years.
A host of local companies are expected to sponsor the event, but Sea Lane Hotel in Prampram is already one of the sponsors.
At stake are trophies, certificates and undisclosed cash prizes.
