SAPHOLDA bounce back to thrash NDK 6-0 in hockey league
Defending seniors’ Greater Accra Hockey champions, SAPHOLDA, bounced back after last week’s humiliation to thrash hapless NDK Financiers 6-0 in a one-sided match while Exchequers halted Trustees from further stretching their lead in the Standard League with a 2-2 drawn game at the National Hockey Stadium last Saturday.
The win notwithstanding, SAPHOLDA were not particularly exceptional on the day except that NDK were a pale shadow of themselves and simply failed to glitter. Playing without arrowhead, Richmond Attipoe, and their founder, Oko Nikoi Dzani, NDK appeared also runs, and even found it difficult to trap the balls.
Man of the match, Francis Antwi, used his gifted speed to his advantage and completely tore the NDK defense into shreds while goalkeeper Adolf Adjei, who was hammered with six goals the previous week was exceptional, thwarting a few of the dangerous balls from the NDK attackers.
Antwi, affectionately called Fii, scored twice, including an individual solo effort when he rounded up the NDK defence before blasting it from the D in the 41st minute. James Mason scored a hattrick while Alfred Armah added another to make it six.
Runaway leaders in the main league, Trustees of SSNIT, played one of their tough games against Exchequers when they were held to a 2-2 drawn game before a sizeable crowd while Veterans battled Citizens International in an intense game before surrendering to a 0-1 loss.
The exciting Police team were held to a 1-1 drawn match against the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) while Extinguishers of the Ghana Fire Service trounced Veterans Ladies 5-0.
Golden Sticks continue to slump after losing 2-3 to Reformers of the Ghana Prisons Service, their second loss on the trot.
