Rio 2016: Women's 4x100 relay team finish last to cap miserable Olympics for Ghana

Ghana's 4x100 women's relay team finished last in their heat on Thursday afternoon to cap a miserable 2016 Olympic Games campaign for the country.

Racing in a tough field at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, the ladies were unable to cope with powerhouses Jamaica and Great Britain, the Ghanaians finished eigth in a time of 43.37 seconds.

The relay team which was comprised of - Janet Amponsah, Flings Owusu-Agyapong, Gemma Acheampong and Beatrice Gyaman - were unable to even match their 42.67s qualifying time which granted them entry into the Olympics.

Five teams; Jamaica (41.79s), Great Britain (41.93s), Ukraine (42.49s), Canada (42.70s) and China (42.70s) progressed to the next round while the Netherlands (42.88s) and Poland (43.33s) exited with Ghana.

All the athletes in Ghana's 16-person contingent for the 2016 Olympics were knocked out in the first round qualifiers of their events.
