The dream of former Manchester United stars, Robin van Persie (RVP) and Nani to feature in this season’s Champions League with new club, Fenerbahce has been dashed with the club’s elimination from the competition last Wednesday.

Shakhtar Donetsk beat the Turkish club 3-0 in the play-offs to book their place in the Champions League last Wednesday.
The tie could have gone either way following last week's goal-less draw in the first leg in Instanbul.

Shakhtar, however, made light work of the visitors at L'viv Arena, with goals by Olexandr Gladkiy, Dario Srna and Alex Teixeira easing the Ukranian outift into the next round.

The Turkish side did not field new signing van Persie but were still had their other star purchase, Nani in their starting line-up.

Gladkiy broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when he tapped home from close range to give Shakhtar a 1-0 lead heading into the break.
Srna and Teixeira completed the job just after the hour mark with a two-goal burst within three minutes.

The exit of Fenerbahce will be a great disappointment from the two stars, who are nearing the twilight of their career and who had hoped to enjoy more action in the spotlight following their move from Manchester United and Sporting Lisbon respectively during this transfer period.
