Scrap Ghana premier league – Dr Nyaho -Tamakloe
A former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called for immediate scrapping of the Ghana Premier League.
According to him, the suspension of the league will enable a reconstitution of the GFA and allow reforms in the national league and the FA itself at large
“The league we are playing now must be suspended, it should be totally suspended. It should be totally suspended. It has no credibility all whatsoever. Because if we have over 60 referees being picked by that taped, referees who are taking openly, the league itself must be suspended. That is the first suggestion I will come out with” he said.
The call comes after 76 match officials were caught on video taking bribes in various forms.
The documentary by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas shows how some GFA officials and officiating referees took money to influence the outcome of games even before the players marched onto the field.
Some of the referees collected as little as GH¢200 while others received sheep, goats and food items in addition.
Speaking on an Accra based Joy FM on Thursday; Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe also said all the officials caught on tape, particularly match referees must be banned as a first step towards reorganising the sport.
“All referees caught on the tape must be fired immediately. Immediately. They should have nothing to do with football not even for toddlers in this country”.
He also called for a careful look at the Electoral College of the FA, adding that, the current number of members will make room for corruption.
“Let’s expand it bigger like my political party did, and think the NDC also did. Let every person who believes in football vote if he has a card. But if you have 120 or 104 people they can easily be compromised”
Touching on the video, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe called on Nyantakyi to advise himself, “From what we have seen so far, it is very damaging, very, very damaging. Nyantakyi should be advising himself now…if he fails to leave, there are provisions in the FA constitution that should be applied to push him out,”
