Simone Biles: Olympian's biological mother begs for forgiveness over abandonment

Shanon Biles, the biological mother of seven-time Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, has expressed her hope for reconciliation with her daughter but believes it’s up to Simone to initiate contact. 

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Shanon, 52, shared her desire to ask Simone for forgiveness and to mend their strained relationship.

Shanon gave up Simone and her younger sister, Adria, to their grandparents, Ron and Nellie Biles, when the girls were toddlers as she battled drug and alcohol addictions. Now sober, Shanon longs to reconnect with Simone but understands that the decision must come from her daughter.

"I would like to make amends with Simone personally—I’m just waiting for her and Adria," Shanon said. "I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move forward? Don’t judge me on my past. Let’s move forward."

Shanon has followed Simone’s remarkable gymnastics career, including her recent success at the Summer Olympics, where she added three gold medals and a silver to her collection, bringing her career total to 11. However, despite the pride she feels, the two remain distant, and Shanon relies on her father, Ron, for updates on Simone.

Shanon, who now works as a cashier and has been clean and sober for years, expressed her pain at missing significant moments in Simone's life, such as her wedding to NFL player Jonathan Owens. Though she has a direct number to reach Simone, Shanon insists she won’t be the first to reach out, choosing instead to wait for Simone to make the move.

“I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her. You can’t push anybody. It hasn’t happened yet, but I have patience. I’m waiting on her,” Shanon concluded.
