Swimming: Abeiku dominates GH Dolphins Invitational

Olympic Games hopeful, Abeiku Gyekye Jackson, dominated the GH Dolphins Invitational Age Categorised Swimming Competition at the Burma Camp Sports Complex pool in Accra last Saturday, winning three events.

The GH Dolphins captain won the 50 metres butterfly event ( Boys 15+), the 100 metres freestyle (Boys 15+) and 50 metres freestyle (Boys 15+).

Abeiku, 16, won the 50 metres butterfly race in a time of 25.53 seconds ahead of Richard Asante Yeboah of Legon/Anopa (31.84 seconds) and Jacob Van Der Westhuizen of Lincoln Community School (44.46 seconds).

He beat Wayne Kriel and John Michael Asiedu to second and third place respectively in the 100 metres freestyle and capped a stunning display of his swimming skills by finishing the 50 metres boys freestyle in a time of 24.31 seconds.

Abeiku’s brothers, Kwesi Abbiw and Kow Asafuah, were also prominent in other categories with the former winning the 50 metres backstroke in 30.80 seconds and the latter winning the 50 metres breaststroke for under-12 in 38.59 seconds, as well as the freestyle event in 28.76 seconds. 

Another big winner on the day was 20-year-old national swimmer, Ophelia Swayne, who swam to victory in the 50 metres freestyle and 50 metres butterfly events.

The top three winners in the various categories were presented with certificates and medals after the event.
