Mourners from all walks of life last week joined the family of the late sports administrator, boxing promoter and manager of repute during the final funeral rites at the La Trade Fair Jandell Events Centre in Accra.

Among the large crowd were members of the Nigerian Community in Ghana, members of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), including the president of the Ambition Boxing Promotion, Alhaji Muritella Toffik, as well as some boxers and their coaches.

The late Decland, was also the president of the Ghana Canoeing and Rowing Association, and little wonder that some members of the rowing and canoeing entities were also present at the funeral.

Many tributes, notably by his wives, Jovita, Viola, Lizy and Stella Decland, sister, Juliana Decland, daughter, Mrs Julia Fani Decland Clement and elder brother, Uncle Polycup Nzeji, were paid to his memory.

A brief tribute in recognition of his hard work was paid by the GBA which praised the regular sponsor of many boxing matches in the country as a colossus who will forever be missed.

As an astute boxing promoter and manager, the late Decland saw the careers of many boxers in Nigeria and Ghana, including Braimah Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, Joshua Okine, alias Bukom Tsatsu, develop.

Born Francis Abaraonye Nzeji Ded, the late Decland, 61, passed on in the first quarter of the year and the body was interred in his home country of Nigeria.
