UCC Wildcats and GRA Braves triumph at 2024 Fetu Afahye Invitational Basketball Tournament
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Wildcats and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Braves claimed victory at the 2024 Cowbell Fetu Afahye Invitational Basketball Tournament, held over the weekend at the UCC indoor arena.
The two-day competition, organised by the Ghana Basketball Federation (GBF) in partnership with After-7 Basketball Club and Promasidor Ghana Limited, marked the 60th anniversary of the Fetu Afahye festival, celebrated by the Paramount Chief and the Oguaa Traditional Area.

The tournament began on Friday with the UCC Wildcats securing a 32-21 win against the Ashanti basketball team in their opening group fixture. Despite a 28-25 loss to the Geekrons, the Wildcats bounced back to defeat the Police team 43-31 and later overcame the Braves 21-15, booking their place in the final against Geekrons.
In the final showdown, the Wildcats delivered a commanding performance, defeating Geekrons 37-13 to avenge their earlier loss and clinch the championship title. Meanwhile, Braves secured third place after beating Oilers 38-25.
In the women's division, the Braves emerged victorious, defeating Police 2-0 in the best-of-three series, with scores of 22-17 and 29-17 to lift the trophy.
The veterans' division saw the Central Regional Basketball Association (CRBA) triumph over the Western Region team with a 36-15 victory, while the CYO basketball team beat After-7 Basketball Club 35-31 to claim third place.
For their efforts, the UCC Wildcats and Braves were awarded trophies, medals, cash prizes, and products from the tournament’s sponsors. James Amoto of the Wildcats and Hannah Amoako of the Braves were named the tournament’s Most Valuable Players, each receiving a basketball and sponsored products.
Tournament Coordinator, Madam Aurora Toppar-Commodore, expressed her gratitude to the participating teams and sponsors, including Budget Cash and Carry and T.T. Brothers Company Limited, for their support.

After the tournament, teams joined the After-7 Basketball Club in a philanthropic gesture, donating money, clothes, shoes, and products to the Padre Pio Rehabilitation Centre in Elmina.
The 2024 Cowbell Fetu Afahye Invitational Tournament showcased both competitive spirit and community service, contributing to the celebrations of the Fetu Afahye festival.
