WAFA cites bad pitch for FA Cup defeat

West African Football Academy’s Director of Operations, George Ofosuhene, has blamed his side’s elimination from the MTN FA Cup to the bad pitch at the Nkawkaw park.

Okwawu United scored in the 115th minute of extra-time through Kwame Kyere to secure a 1-0 victory over WAFA and advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

But Ofosuhene believed but for the poor nature of the pitch, the story could have been different.

"If it were to be a different pitch, the scoreline wouldn't have been the same.

"We would have beaten them hands down within 90 minutes. We played on their own pitch which we aren't familiar with. It is also not a good pitch.

"It was a good game. We gave them the chance to score and at the end of the day, Okwawu United have qualified.

"I have to congratulate them. Better luck next time to us (WAFA). That's the spirit of the game," he said.

WAFA were kicked out of the competition at the same stage last year when they lost to eventual winners Medeama SC.

They were losing semi-finalists in 2014.
