Weightlifting Federation, Phoenix Assurance hold media seminar
Veteran sports broadcaster, Dr Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, and Ghana Weightlifting chief, Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah, will address the sports traternity at a day’s seminar organised by the Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) in partnership with the Phoenix Life Assurance at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday.
The maiden Phoenix Life Weightlifting Media Seminar brings together the media and experienced resource persons, including Mr Husseini Akueteh Addy, the Secretary General of the GWF to deliberate on the role and impact of the media in sports development, sports branding, and technical and regulations governing weightlifting.

Dr Ofosu-Asare, who is currently a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Adimisnistration (GIMPA), will present a paper on the impact of Ghanaian sports journalists and sports development in Ghana, while Mr Nunoo Mensah, who holds an Executive MBA in Marketing from the University of Ghana, will speak on the topic ‘Sports Branding in Ghana — The Cricket and Weightlifting Experience’.
Mr Addy, an experienced sports administrator with an International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) certificate in Anti-Doping, will make a presentation on the rules and regulations in the sport.
Mr Nunoo-Mensah, told the Daily Graphic that the seminar formed part of the federation’s strategy for developing the game by giving the media new insights and trends in the sport to ensure a sustainable growth of weightlifting in Ghana, which had made a lot of strides in recent years.
“As a federation, we are focused on accurate reporting and truthful dissemination of information on issues concerning the sport, hence the seminar to educate the media,” he said.
About 75 journalists from leading media houses will participate in the seminar which will be officially opened by the Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Vincent Oppong Asamoah.
