Northern City FC forward Wungah Williams and FC Ashantigold coach Ernest Okyere have become the first recipients of the Division One League NASCO Player and Coach of the Month awards.
Their recognition marks a historic milestone following the extension of the NASCO awards scheme to the Access Bank Division One League.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the pair as winners for October after standout performances across all three zones of the second-tier competition.
Williams, who has been in prolific form, scored five goals in four matches and was adjudged Man of the Match on two occasions. His consistency placed him ahead of fellow contenders Ernest Adeti of WAFA and Emmanuel Ankamah of SC Ashantigold.
In the coaching category, Ernest Okyere saw off competition from Moses Coffie of Na God FC and Isaac Nii Armah of Debibi FC. He guided FC Ashantigold to an impressive run of three victories and one draw, with his team scoring five goals and conceding just two.
The Ghana Football Association, together with electronics manufacturer NASCO, recently announced a strengthened reward package for the Division One League. As part of this initiative, NASCO, already sponsors of the Man of the Match, Player of the Month and Coach of the Month schemes in the Ghana Premier League and Women’s Premier League, has now extended support to every Division One fixture. Each Man of the Match winner will receive an electric iron.
For their October honours, the Player of the Month will take home a 24-inch NASCO television set, while the Coach of the Month will receive a 40-inch NASCO television set.
The GFA says the initiative aims to boost motivation across the Division One League and recognise excellence at all levels of domestic football.
