STEM Coordinators in Greater Accra empowered through Africa ICT Right’s workshop
Africa ICT Right (AIR), a leading EdTech non-profit dedicated to advancing ICT and digital literacy, has successfully concluded a transformative three-day STEM workshop for 24 STEM coordinators from the Greater Accra Region.
Held from July 23 to 25, 2025, at the Accra STEM Academy in East Legon, the intensive training equipped educators with cutting-edge skills in Arduino (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Robotics, 3D Design & Printing, Virtual Reality (VR), and Coding.
The workshop, attended by 24 of the region’s 29 STEM coordinators, aimed to enhance their capacity to deliver innovative STEM education in their respective schools and districts. Through hands-on sessions led by AIR’s expert technical trainers, participants explored practical applications of technology—from coding Arduino-based devices to assembling basic robotic systems and engaging with immersive VR learning tools.
Mr Daniel Kwaku Ganyoame, AIR’s Executive Director, opened the event by underscoring the critical role of educator empowerment in transforming Ghana’s education system.
“When we invest in training STEM coordinators, we’re investing in the future of Ghanaian students,” he said. “This workshop is about equipping teachers with the tools and confidence to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation in their classrooms.”
Participants lauded the programme’s relevance and interactivity. Mrs Sarah Boamah, a representative from the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, described the training as “insightful and impactful,” and called for more frequent sessions to sustain its benefits.
Mrs Beatty Boah, the Regional STMIE Coordinator, echoed this sentiment, commending AIR and the coordinators for their commitment.
“This hands-on, practical training is exactly what our educators need to stay relevant in today’s digital world,” she said. “I strongly recommend periodic workshops to maintain this momentum.”
The event aligns with AIR’s mission to support the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education in modernising teaching methodologies and promoting STEM education nationwide. By equipping educators with advanced technological skills, AIR is helping prepare Ghanaian students for a tech-driven future.
Looking ahead, AIR plans to expand similar training programmes to other regions, with a focus on underserved and rural schools, in an effort to further bridge the digital divide.
