Africa Oil Week to relocate from Cape Town to Accra in 2025

The prestigious Africa Oil Week (AOW) conference, a key event in the global energy sector, will be held in Accra from September 15 to 18, 2025. 

Announced jointly by the Ghanaian government, AOW organisers, and the Africa Prosperity Network, this move from Cape Town to Ghana’s capital underscores Ghana’s growing prominence in Africa’s energy landscape and ambitions to become a central hub for energy investment across the continent.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo expressed pride in hosting the event in a televised, describing it as a landmark moment for Ghana and Africa’s energy future.

“I am personally delighted to endorse Africa Oil Week and to welcome its move from Cape Town to Accra. My gratitude extends to Sankofa Events for entrusting Ghana as the new host of this significant gathering,” he remarked.

President Akufo Addo also commended Paul Sinclair, the CEO of Sankofa Events and the visionary behind AOW, for his dedication to advancing Africa’s energy potential.

This relocation signifies a shift towards an African-driven approach to energy development. Mr. Sinclair stated, “Africa Oil Week is about Africa charting its own course for natural resource development. Our goal is to secure energy access for our people and to establish a prominent role for Africa in the global energy landscape.” He emphasised the importance of fostering partnerships that prioritise both growth and sustainability.

At a press conference held at the Kempinski Hotel today in Accra, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa, further underscored the commitment to this initiative, announcing that Ghana aims to host a summit that will bring together African ministers, national oil companies, and regulatory bodies. 

“Our goal is to make it the premier energy dialogue on the continent, setting the stage for transformative discussions and partnerships that will propel Africa’s energy future,” he said.

The CEO of the Petroleum Commission, Egbert Faibille Junior, highlighted the importance of this event in aligning with Ghana’s vision for a competitive upstream sector, noting, “The arrival of Africa Oil Week in Ghana is a landmark occasion for the continent, aligning perfectly with our vision at the Petroleum Commission to strengthen Ghana’s upstream potential and develop new frameworks.”

Africa Prosperity Network, AOW’s strategic partner, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of empowering African service providers to access international projects. 

“Hosting a world-class event like AOW in Accra is a proud moment for Ghana and Africa’s oil and gas sector,” a representative of the network commented. The event is expected to bring together industry leaders from around the globe to explore Africa’s energy potential and stimulate deal-making and investment.

Scheduled to run from September 15 to 18, 2025, at Accra’s Kempinski Hotel, Africa Oil Week will be a platform for advancing dialogue, innovation, and collaboration, positioning Ghana at the heart of Africa’s energy ambitions.
