Anthony Sarpong appointed Acting Commissioner-General of Ghana Revenue Authority

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Anthony Sarpong, a Senior Partner at KPMG, as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). 

The appointment, which takes immediate effect, follows the resignation of Julie Essiam, who stepped down from the role on 20 January 2025.  

The appointment was confirmed in a letter from the Office of the President, stating:  “His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana in accordance with 195 (1) of the Constitution and Section 13(1) of the Ghana Revenue Act, 2009 (Act 791) has appointed you as the Acting Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority pending receipt of the Constitutionally required advice of the government Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”

Anthony Sarpong is a financial expert with over 22 years of professional experience across Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa. As a Senior Partner at KPMG Ghana, he has provided strategic direction and oversight, contributing to the firm’s corporate objectives.  

Anthony Sarpong is a member of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), and the Ghana Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Advisors (GARIA).  

His academic credentials include an MSc in Financial Risk Management from London Metropolitan University, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Manchester, and a First-Class Honours degree in Business Administration (Accounting) from the University of Ghana.
