APPO CEOs tour Sentuo Refinery ahead of Accra Forum

A delegation of the African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO), made up of chief executives and senior representatives of National Oil Companies (NOCs), has toured the Sentuo Oil Refinery in Accra as part of activities leading to the 7th APPO NOC CEOs Forum, which opens on Monday, September 15, 2025.

The team, led by the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and current Chair of the Forum, Mr. Kwame Ntow Amoah, and the Secretary General of APPO, Dr. Omar Farouk Ibrahim, was received by Sentuo’s management.

Mr. Amoah underscored the significance of the visit, saying it reflected Africa’s determination to strengthen self-sufficiency across the energy value chain.

“Sentuo is a shining example of how Ghana is leveraging local infrastructure and capacity to meet growing energy needs. The facility represents the kind of partnerships and investments we need across Africa to translate our resources into sustainable growth,” he said.

The General Manager of Sentuo Oil Refinery, Mr. Eric Lin, expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated the company’s commitment to collaboration. “It is an honour to host APPO CEOs and delegations here. This visit offers us an opportunity to engage, explore and access areas of cooperation that can strengthen our role within Ghana and across the continent,” he said.

Sentuo’s Corporate Affairs Director, Mr. Ben Cobblah, and Technical Advisor, Mr. George Andoh, provided an overview of the refinery’s operations. The US$980 million facility currently processes 40,000 barrels of oil daily and employs more than 420 Ghanaians, with Phase Two of its expansion set to add an extra three million metric tonnes of capacity.

Mr. Andoh highlighted the importance of strategic support from GNPC in the company’s growth, noting, “Without GNPC’s gas supply at the onset, our operationalisation would have been impacted. This demonstrates how collaboration is critical in driving Ghana’s refining ambitions.”

The delegation later embarked on a guided tour of the refinery’s units and production lines, gaining first-hand insights into its capacity and future prospects.

The visit sets the stage for broader discussions on refining and downstream development during the two-day CEOs Forum in Accra, which will focus on regional partnerships, innovation, and sustainable growth in Africa’s petroleum industry.
