Bata opens retail outlet in Oxford Street Mall

BATA, one of the world’s leading footwear retailers and manufacturers, has opened its biggest retail outlet in Ghana at the Oxford Street Mall at Osu, Accra.

Addressing the media and customers at the well-organised opening of the new outlet at Oxford Street Mall, Osu last Friday, the Managing Director of Padua Collections, the franchise owner of Bata, Caroline Ochieng said: “Nearly three years ago, we officially launched Bata onto the Ghanaian fashion industry. We are proud to inform you that Bata is performing very well in Ghana and other retail outlets in Africa and the world”.

“Bata’s strength lies in its worldwide footprint, serving over one million customers per day, employing over 40,000 people, operating 5,000 retail stories and managing a retail presence in over 50 countries with 33 production facilities across 22 countries. No one in the world knows shoes like we do”, Mrs Ochieng added.

The Director of Bata responsible for new markets within Africa, Mr Nasir Rafiq, also stated that Bata had outlets in Botswana, Congo (RDC), Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, South Africa, Angola, Namibia, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, Tanzania and Zimbabwe. 

In Ghana, Bata has three outlets in Accra and plans to open another three in 2014.

Mr Rafiq said the franchise’s strategic intent was to open more than 15 outlets in Ghana by the year 2016.

Bata manufactures and sell men, women and children’s shoes, as well as athletic ones. Among the top and internationally recognised brands of shoes include: Marie Claire, Bata Comfit, Toughees, Bubblegummers, Babybubbles, Weinbrenner, Tommy Takkies, Power and North Star.

Among dignitaries who graced the event included: Rev. Father Campbell, the Parish Priest of Christ the King Church; Mr Isaac Emmil Osei Bonsu Jnr, a legal practitioner and other executives from corporate bodies and the media.
