Caveman unveils retro loom watch inspired by Kente and Adinkra art
Ghanaian luxury watchmaker Caveman has unveiled a new timepiece that blends contemporary design with deep cultural symbolism, drawing inspiration from Kente and Adinkra artistry to create what the brand describes as a modern tribute to Ghanaian heritage.
The unisex watch, known as the Retro Loom, marks the company’s latest attempt to fuse traditional aesthetics with precision engineering. The model features a textured dial modelled on the geometric patterns of Kente cloth, with minimalist hour markers and muted metallic accents intended to foreground the cultural motifs.
Its metal-link strap mirrors the woven textures associated with Ghana’s fabric traditions. The watch incorporates Adinkra-inspired elements across the strap, which Caveman says contributes to an “artisanal yet modern” design language. The construction, according to the brand, prioritises durability and comfort, with contoured edges designed for everyday wear.
The Retro Loom comes in a polished 40mm stainless-steel case with a slim profile intended to appeal to a wide range of users. The colour palette combines earthy tones with metallic highlights to create a balance between traditional influences and a modern visual identity.
Powered by a quartz movement, the watch is fitted with a long-life battery and an optional date feature. It is water-resistant to 50 metres and finished with a scratch-resistant surface. Each timepiece is packaged in a presentation box decorated with Kente and Adinkra motifs and accompanied by an authenticity certificate and care guide.
Caveman’s founder and creative director, Anthony Dzamefe, said the intention behind the Retro Loom was to create “a bridge between Ghanaian history and modern fashion”, explaining that the brand’s understanding of luxury is shaped by “meaning, precision and cultural significance” rather than elaborate ornamentation.
The watch is now available for purchase on Caveman’s official website and at its retail outlets. Early customer reactions and independent reviews have highlighted the brand’s deliberate use of local cultural references and its attention to craftsmanship.
Caveman, a Ghana-founded brand, positions itself as a luxury lifestyle and fashion house rooted in African heritage, with a focus on craftsmanship, sustainability and contemporary appeal.
