CPC reaffirms commitment to Ghana’s cocoa heritage as Ghana marks heritage month

The Managing Director of Cocoa Processing Company PLC (CPC), Prof. William Coffie, has reiterated the company’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s cocoa processing industry as the nation celebrates the month of March as Heritage Month.

Speaking on the significance of the month, Prof. Coffie described March and especially March 7, 1957, as a defining moment in Ghana’s history when the country gained independence, setting the stage for self-determination, industrial ambition, and national pride.

Heritage Month, he said, was an opportunity to celebrate Ghanaian culture, traditions, and resilient spirit, as well as reflect on the economic vision that accompanied the nation’s political freedom.

“Cocoa Processing Company was established in 1965 by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to ensure that Ghana not only produces cocoa but also processes it,” he said.

“Our mission remains to transform cocoa beans into finished products that carry the mark of Ghanaian excellence to the world.” he added

Prof. Coffie said for six decades, CPC has remained a symbol of quality and national value creation. Its Golden Tree chocolate confectionery and PORTEM semi-finished products, made entirely from Ghanaian cocoa beans, showcase the dedication of local cocoa farmers and the technical expertise of the company’s workforce.

Local processing

The Managing Director expressed support for the Government’s policy initiative requiring that at least 50 per cent of Ghana’s cocoa be processed locally, describing it as a bold step toward value addition, job creation, and industrial growth.

The company also welcomed efforts to revive the company and position it as the country’s leading cocoa processor.

“As we celebrate Heritage Month, let us remember that our heritage is both cultural and economic,” Prof. Coffie said.

“Cocoa is not just a commodity, it is a heritage crop, and CPC is part of that legacy. Together, we will honour our past, strengthen our present, and build a future where Ghana leads in cocoa processing excellence.”
