Ghana Insurance Awards honours 15 companies, five individuals

Players in the insurance industry last Friday gathered at the De Icon Event Centre for the sixth edition of the Ghana Insurance Awards (GIA) which seeks to celebrate the achievements of individuals and companies who have distinguished themselves in the industry in the year under review.

The Ghana Insurance Awards is a trademark owned by Xodus Communications Limited, organizers of Forty under 40 Ghana, Forty under 40 Africa, Ghana Oil and Gas Awards, Ghana Manufacturing Awards and Ghana Auto Awards

The GIA has since its inception in 2018 seek to promote the growth of the insurance industry through progressive competition, innovation and adherence to the highest professional standards

In all, 15 companies and five individuals were honoured at the sixth edition of the ceremony.

Prudential Life Insurance was one of the biggest winners on the night, walking away with the Life Insurance Brand of the Year award; Marketing Initiative of the year; and the Product Innovation award.

Imperial General Assurance also won the Promising Insurance Company of the year; Fastest Growing Company; and Indigenous Insurance Company of the year.

Star Assurance won the Claims Initiative award and General Insurance Company Award, while Star Life won the Life Insurance Company of the year and Customer Service award.

Vanguard Assurance was also won the Major Loss award and the Product Innovation award (General Insurance), while Enterprise Insurance was adjudged the Commercial Line Insurer of the year.

Fidelity Bank won the Bancassurance Leader Award.

In the Private health industry, Metropolitan Health Insurance won the Private Health Insurance Company of the year; Acacia Health Insurance Company won the Brand of the year; and Nationwide Medical Insurance won the Customer Service Award.

Enterprise Insurance, Enterprise Life, and Nationwide Medical Insurance were inducted into the Hall of Fame in the General Insurance; Life Insurance; and Private Health Insurance catergoeirs respectively.

The CEO of Vanguard Assurance was adjudged the General Insurance CEO of the year, while the CEO of Star Life and CEO or Acacia Health Insurance were also adjudged the Life Insurance CEO of the year and Private Health Insurance CEO of the years respectively.

In his welcome remarks, Chief Executive Officer of Xodus Communications, Richard Abbey said the winners were selected by an independent advisory board who evaluated the awardees based on a criteria listed for each category. 

He said the awards had over the last five years celebrated excellence and professional standards in the insurance industry and would continue to do so.

He noted that the Technical Committee and the Awarding Board have always been guided by reports by the National Insurance Commission, the NHIA and the companies themselves in determining its winners.
