GoldBod offers special GH¢832 bonus per pound to discourage gold smuggling
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has said it is offering a temporary special bonus of GH¢832 per pound of gold for all licensed miners across Ghana.
In a statement issued Wednesday, August 27, 2025, the GoldBod explained that the intervention is intended to motivate licensed miners and discourage gold smuggling.
“With this initiative, a pound of gold, which should have sold in the local market for GH¢8,868 is today selling at a price of GH¢9,700,” the statement said.
The GoldBod noted that the measure is a response to concerns raised by licensed miners about the fall in local gold prices in recent months, a development attributed to the appreciation of the Ghana cedi.
The board stressed that miners, who have contributed to the country’s higher gold output and foreign exchange earnings, should not be disadvantaged by the stronger currency.
It said the GoldBod had resourced its licensed traders nationwide to ensure prompt payment of the bonus to all miners who sell their gold through the board.
