Omnibank boss picks award

The Chief Executive Officer of Omnibank Limited, Mr Philip Oti-Mensah, was named the Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) financial Chief Executive Officer of the year 2017 at the Ghana@ 60 edition of the Entrepreneur and Corporate Executive Awards 2017.

Mr Oti-Mensah, who was described as a people-focused and result-oriented leader with 14 years of experience in SME banking, was honoured for his outstanding performance in building SMEs in Ghana.

The CEO, who was appointed CEO of Omnibank in January 2013 when it was a savings and loans company, was praised for leading the transformation of the company into a strong reliable brand with visible employee-focused development.

He received a memento and a citation for his achievement at a ceremony held last Saturday in Accra.

A Deputy Minister of Trade, Mr Carlos Ahenkora, said the government was committed to supporting the growth of the private sector which he described as the centre for the growth of the economy.

Articulating what the government intended to do to advance the sector, he said a 10-pillar strategic plan had been drawn up to spearhead the country’s industrialisation drive.

Motivation 

Speaking to journalists after receiving his award, Mr Oti-Mensah said he was glad the bank’s focus on entrepreneurs was paying off. 

He said he was optimistic the award would motivate him and his team to do more to influence the growth of many small entrepreneurs to succeed.

Mr Oti-Mensah also praised the country’s entrepreneurs for giving of their best in challenging times such as high-interest rates and working hard to grow their businesses.

The awards 

About 40 other entrepreneurs were also honoured for their outstanding performances and contributions to the growth of the private sector and the economy.

The Ghana@ 60 edition of the Entrepreneur and Corporate Executive Awards 2017, which was the seventh edition to be held by the foundation, was sponsored by Omnibank Ghana Limited and attracted top managers of various businesses, members of the diplomatic corps, politicians and government officials.

This year’s event was held on the theme: “Promoting economic growth through private sector development and corporate governance.”

The awards was instituted in 2010 to identify and recognise the contributions of companies, entrepreneurs and corporate executives to the development of the economy.

It is aimed at recognising and honouring outstanding Ghanaian and non-Ghanaian permanent resident entrepreneurs and serves as a motivation for budding Ghanaian entrepreneurs in the small, medium and large enterprises.
